He lands it with no apparent damage. Then, “[He] came in and had a glass water before he got a friend to fly in to to pick him up.”

Kinja'd!!!

“The pilot has recovered the plane, and the propeller which landed in New Polzeath has been recovered by the police.”

Zero fucks given.

I’d be needing something stronger than water if I’d just been through that...

American manufactured, although erected in Britain in 1936, this Aeronca received an additional door and extended cabin glazing in 1952 and in 1956 came to Southend as the personal mount of the then Airport Commandant, Mr Bernard Collins. I don’t have an exact date for this photo, but I most likely shot it in 1956, where the original Southend control tower may be seen in the background. It was sold on in 1958 and was still on the UK Register in 2000, although rebuilt in 1976 using major parts of the British-built Aeronca 100 G-AETG and then acquired the latter’s c/n AB.110.

Looks like he’s got a great aspect ratio. Probably glides quite tractably.

I was thinking along similar lines. He probably could have found a thermal and stayed up all day. The pilot’s reaction was probably, “Oh, bother.”

How in the world did you find all that? Google the registration?

Watch the last segment of the video that McMike posted. The narrator talks about soaring for an hour in a “demotored” airplane.

Yeah, I gave it a shot, and found those.

Do an image search of the reg number. There are more photos.
